Gilgit-Baltistan

Gilgit-Baltistan ,formerly known as the Northern Areas is a section of the wider Kashmir area that is controlled by Pakistan as an administrative province and is the focus of a dispute between India and Pakistan that dates back to 1947 as well as one between India and China that began relatively later. Azad Kashmir to the south, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to the west, Afghanistan's Wakhan Corridor to the north, China's Xinjiang region to the east and northeast, and the union territories of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh governed by India to the southeast. A high mountain region in Pakistan's north called Gilgit-Baltistan (GB) has an extremely low population density. The world's second-highest mountain (K2) and four further eight-thousanders are located there, and it has the longest glaciers outside of the polar regions. Geographically, the Himalaya, Karakorum, and Hindukush high mountain ranges make up the majority of Great Britain, which is a high-mountain desert. Language, religion, and ethnicity are all diverse in GB society.
